How to Get There

Harmoneyville Store

Harmonyville is a village within the Town of Townshend. During the early 1800's this was a bustling community comprised of a custom saw, grist and flouring mill. The grist mill, which was located behind the store, ceased operation during the Great Depression and was later converted to a private residence which was destroyed by fire in the mid 1990's. The bridge by which Vermont Route 30 goes over Mill Brook was the site of an earlier covered bridge. The former Harmonyville Bridge was originally an open span but was covered in 1879. The bridge was washed away in a flood in the 1930's.

The Harmonyville Store was started in the early 1820's as a dry goods store which supplied the "mill" community. The store started in the front of the house formerly known as the Pratt House. Over the years several families have lived and operated the store as it grew to meet the demands of the community. As the business grew, rooms were converted to store and additions added and presently it is the only remaining operating original Country Store in the Town of Townshend.

The Harmonyville Store has been featured on the 2002 Backroads America Calendar. We have also been featured in Yankee Magazine in an article promoting the Trophy Trees of New England. We are fortunate to have on our property Vermont's Largest Sycamore Tree. Please be sure to enjoy its beauty when you come to Harmonyville.

We are a family owned and operated Country Store which serves our community and our summer campers and winter skiiers.
