About Us

Castleton Village Store is located in Castleton's National Historic District. Castleton has an open house colonial day every August, We have one of Vermont's best wine shops within our store with expert wine advice. We have a complete Vermont cheese department with a large selection of Vermont's boutique cheeses. We carry native grass-fed beef and pork from the nearby Wing Farm. Special Order Seafood available. Birdseye Diner, a restored 1940s Silk City Diner, is across the street. Vermont Battle of Hubbardton Historic site is a few miles away.

How to Get There

  • Exit 5 off of Route 4 brings you to Main St., Castleton, A National Historic District.
  • We are in the center of the village.
  • Castleton is 14 miles west of Rutland and 12 miles east of the N.Y. border.

Paul McCartney visits JJ Hapgoods


Sir Paul McCartney, the famous musician and former Beatle, made a surprise visit to the JJ Hapgood General Store in Peru recently to enjoy lunch. McCartney is shown here with store owners Tim and Juliette Britton.
